Luna Textiles announces relocation and expansion to Langholm mill
Luna Textiles Ltd, one of the UK's leading manufacturers of premium wool-filled bedding and home comfort products, has announced its relocation to one of the historic homes of the Scottish textile industry.
Luna have moved to Buccleuch Mill in Langholm marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the company's continued growth.
Textiles and Langholm
Textiles and Langholm are closely interwoven, with their dozens of mills helping earn the town the nickname the ‘Muckle Toon’.
While the town’s industry has now changed, the arrival of Luna Textiles will help keep Langholm’s textiles tradition going, and create new employment opportunities through the creation of up to ten jobs by 2029.
SOSE support
Luna Textiles will be increasing its production capacity at its new Langholm base, with the help of our £70,000 grant.
The move represents a significant investment in the future of the business, providing the additional manufacturing space needed to meet increasing customer demand while benefiting from lower operating overheads.
The expansion will see Luna Textiles substantially increase its production capacity with the installation of:
• Four carding lines, doubling capacity from the current two.
• New industrial sewing machines.
• Two new cross-folding machines feeding a brand-new quilting line.
• An additional quilting line alongside the company's existing production facilities.
Luna Textiles
Luna Textiles predominantly manufactures premium wool-filled products for other businesses throughout the UK and overseas.
Specialising in business-to-business (B2B) manufacturing, the company produces duvets, pillows, cushions and orthopaedic support cushions using Scottish wool that is fully traceable to more than 100 farms across Scotland.
Its commitment to quality, sustainability and British manufacturing has earned Luna Textiles an international reputation, with products supplied to customers around the world.
Shaun Daniel of Luna Textiles said:
"This is an exciting time for Luna Textiles in conjunction with South of Scotland Enterprise.
"We have become an industry leader in wool-filled products, concentrating on producing high-quality products that are sought after and supplied to all parts of the world.
"The success of the business is based on high-quality manufacturing.
"After 12 years at our current location, we now need to expand and grow further due to increasing demand for both our standard and bespoke bedding ranges.
"We see Langholm as ideally placed, with the right skills and textile heritage to help take Luna Textiles into the next chapter of its journey.
"We are excited to become part of the local community and to invest in jobs and manufacturing in a town with such a proud history in the textile industry."
Russel Griggs, Chair of South of Scotland Enterprise, added:
“Textiles is such a historically important sector for Langholm, and the South of Scotland as a whole, which is why we felt it was vital we provided assistance to help Luna Textiles to move into our region.
We have already supported FTS Dyers, who have operated in Langholm for almost 80 years, and both companies will work closely beside one another at Buccleuch Mill.
This is an excellent inward investment story and highlights the reputation of the South of Scotland as a key location for the textiles industry in Scotland, the UK and beyond.”
