A free support programme to help Scottish Borders businesses take climate action and grasp the economic opportunities presented by the transition to Net Zero has been launched.

The Scottish Borders Climate Springboard programme will help businesses in the Scottish Borders to reduce carbon emissions and build climate resilience and sustainability.

The six-week programme will be delivered by Edinburgh Climate Change Institute (ECCI) on our behalf, with ECCI’s specialist team providing world-leading, hands-on training for businesses who sign up.

What will businesses get from the programme?

This support will include:

  • Three tailored workshops
  • Peer networking
  • One-to-one expert support.

Businesses will get support to develop their own carbon footprint and action plan, and will be provided with resources to help them:

  • Cut carbon emissions
  • Reduce costs
  • Build resilience
  • Seize opportunities presented by the green transition.

Am I eligible?

The programme is open to all Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the Scottish Borders. For a definition of an SME, please see this guide.

What does this cost?

This is a free service - support for the programme is being provided through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

How long does this take?

The programme is expected to begin in January 2026, will run for six weeks. 

The programme will be run over two to three groups, with the final group expected to complete the programme in March 2026. 

About Edinburgh Climate Change Institute

For over a decade, ECCI have worked with a wide variety of Scottish businesses - from jewellery makers and crofters to lawyers and offshore construction firms.  

Based at the University of Edinburgh, ECCI’s flagship Climate Springboard programme has enabled nearly 300 Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) across Scotland to measure carbon emissions, set action plans, and take steps towards decarbonisation.
