Regional projects and initiatives

Recognising the distinctiveness of the region, the new South of Scotland Enterprise Agency will deliver a tailored approach to support the aims of the Scottish Government’s ambition. South of Scotland Enterprise will encourage and promote fair work through a range of activities to deliver these overarching aims, and it will work with existing and potential businesses across sectors of all sizes and with communities looking to grow or to support inclusive growth.

South of Scotland Economic Partnership

Prior to the establishment of the new Agency, the South of Scotland Economic Partnership (SoSEP) was established in January 2018 to respond to the economic needs and opportunities of the South of Scotland in advance of the establishment of the new Agency in April 2020.

Draft Regional Economic Strategy

Between February and March, significant engagement took place with those who live, work, and operate across the South via themed discussions, direct interviews, surveys, and online drop-in sessions to help shape the strategy. Just under 1000 people contributed their thoughts.  Thank you to everyone who took the time to take part in this.

Your feedback has allowed us to bring together information into a draft strategy and to make it available for public consultation ahead of being finalised which is planned for September.

What next for the RES?

The draft strategy will be presented to SOSE’s Board on 17 June and council meetings of Scottish Borders Council (SBC) on 17 June and Dumfries and Galloway on 24 June, for endorsement for a summer consultation over July and August.

If fully endorsed by SOSE, SBC and D&G Council, the consultation will be launched early July where there will be the opportunity for everyone to give their views.

Watch this space for how to take part.  In the meantime, please take the time to read the draft RES.
